A Lakeside Love Story: Capturing the Perfect Proposal With a View.

There’s something undeniably romantic about a proposal at a scenic viewpoint – especially one overlooking a calm, glimmering lake. This particular afternoon was nothing short of magic, and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it.

I arrived early to the spot, camera in hand, with a secret plan already in motion. The groom-to-be had reached out beforehand. He knew exactly where he was going to pop the question and how he envisioned the moment unfolding.

To keep everything under wraps, I brought along a decoy – a friend posing as a fellow hiker & coffee drinker – so the surprise wouldn’t be spoiled when the couple saw me at the location.

As they approached the viewpoint, the light was moody and the promised rain held off.  I casually positioned myself nearby, pretending to be absorbed in the view. Meanwhile, my heart was pounding, and my camera was ready.

And then… he knelt down.

Her reaction was instant and emotional – equal parts surprise, joy, and tears. The moment was pure magic. The way they looked at each other said everything. Love. Commitment. A future unfolding right there on the edge of the lake.

After a joyful “yes,” they cracked open a bottle of champagne tucked away for the occasion.

Once we’d captured the joy of the proposal itself, we made our way to another nearby location for a few more engagement photos. The energy between them was playful, emotional, and so deeply connected.

I left them to enjoy the rest of their evening, newly engaged and totally wrapped up in each other.

It’s an incredible honour to be trusted with moments like these. If you’re planning a surprise proposal in British Columbia – or anywhere with a stunning natural backdrop – I’d love to help you capture it, discreetly and beautifully.
