Escape to the Canadian Rockies in Autumn:

The Canadian Rockies are stunning in the Fall: Golden aspens, snow dusted peaks and mist on the water. It’s a perfect time to immerse yourself in nature’s Autumnal palette with Nikon Ambassadors Viktoria Haack and Monika Deviat.

What to Expect:

Banff National Park and its neighbouring areas offer breathtaking natural beauty, from colourful foliage and brilliant alpine lakes to majestic mountains. The workshop is split into two basecamps: We will begin in the Town of Banff, spending two nights capturing scenes around the area. For the second part, we will move to the Lake Louise Inn, providing easier access to locations such as Moraine Lake, Emerald Lake, the Icefields Parkway, and Abraham Lake.

Diverse Photography Opportunities:

Participants will have the chance to explore a range of photographic styles. From capturing intimate scenes to composing grander landscapes as well as dark skies for night photography, this workshop offers something for everyone. There will also be opportunities for wildlife photography, as the elk rut will be in full swing!

Iconic and Hidden Locations:

We will visit some of the most well-known photography locations in the Canadian Rockies, as well as lesser-known gems within the park. Our goal is to help you develop your personal creative vision while inspiring you to embrace any conditions we encounter.

Technical and Creative Guidance:

Throughout the workshop, we’ll help you refine your creative vision—guiding you in crafting compelling compositions, using natural light to enhance mood, and developing your personal style. Alongside this creative exploration, we’ll provide hands-on instruction in techniques such as focus stacking, long exposures, long-lens creativity and night photography, as well as any other techniques participants are eager to explore.

Safety, Ethics, and Respect for Nature:

Your instructors will cover essential topics, including safety in the wilderness, ethical photography practices, and responsible interactions with wildlife and the environment.

Weather Considerations:

September weather in the Canadian Rockies can be unpredictable, with average temperatures ranging from 2°C to 17°C. Be prepared for the possibility of temperatures dropping below freezing, ensuring you pack accordingly for changing conditions.

Join us for an unforgettable experience, capturing the magic of autumn in the Canadian Rockies!

Calgary International Airport (YYC): The Closest Major Airport to Banff
Calgary International Airport, located just 130 kilometers (81 miles) from Banff, is the primary airport for travelers heading to the Canadian Rockies. As the closest major airport, it offers excellent connections to both national and international destinations.

Car Rentals at Calgary International Airport:
Vehicles can be rented directly at Calgary International Airport (YYC). The car rental center is just a short distance from the main terminal, with several rental agencies available to choose from.

Driving from Calgary to Banff:
Banff is approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive (about 130 kilometers / 81 miles) from Calgary International Airport. The scenic route follows the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1), offering stunning mountain views as you approach this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Alternative Transportation Options or for those Car Sharing:
If you prefer not to rent a car, shuttle services are available between Calgary International Airport and Banff. Popular options include Banff Airporter and Brewster Express, both of which offer regular service and drop-offs at most hotels in Banff. Advanced reservations are recommended to ensure availability.

Things to Keep in Mind When Driving:

  • Parks Canada Pass: If you’re entering Banff National Park by car, make sure to purchase a Parks Canada admission pass. This pass grants access to the national park and supports its conservation efforts.
