New Zealand in Autumn with Akari Photo Tours

Join us in New Zealand’s South Island in autumn, when golden foliage, changing light and fresh mountain snow create a wonderful combination of colour and atmosphere. With two experienced photographers guiding a small group, we’ll explore some of the South Island’s most beautiful and varied landscapes, from Aoraki / Mount Cook and the Southern Alps to the forests and fiords of Fiordland.

We’ll photograph from the trails, from the water and from the air – including a scenic flight over the peaks, glaciers and valleys of the Southern Alps, a cruise through Milford Sound, and an overnight journey into remote Doubtful Sound.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll work with the conditions as they unfold, looking for both the grand views and quieter details. We’ll explore composition, exposure, shutter speed and techniques such as focus stacking, but always with the intention of helping you respond to what you connect with.

With two instructors and just eight guests, there is plenty of time for individual guidance, image discussion and exploration. Daniel Murray, who was born in the South Island and has photographed these landscapes for more than 30 years, brings an intimate knowledge of the region and its changing conditions.

Most importantly, we’ll encourage you to slow down and spend time with the landscape – to notice what draws you in, develop your own way of seeing it, and make photographs that reflect that personal connection.
